LinkedIn Top 50 Colleges for Long-Term Career Success

The 2026 list, mapped and compared against US News β€” with the admissions and cost data for each school.

We like the LinkedIn Top 50 Best Colleges for Long Term Career Success in the US because it is outcome oriented. It allows students and parents to identify schools that may otherwise be ignored in conventional rankings like US News. LinkedIn is the world's #1 career social network and they have millions of data points to leverage - including the network graph of students, internships, and top employers. If you are looking for top schools where your degree will have a high likelihood of an ROI, the schools on the LinkedIn Top 50 are worth looking at.

What the list tells you

50
Schools ranked
17
Not in the US News national list
18
Under 5,000 undergrads
12%
Median acceptance rate

17 of the fifty have no rank in the US News national universities list at all. Most of them are small liberal arts colleges, which US News scores in a separate ranking β€” so a family working from the national list alone would never see Williams, Bowdoin, Davidson or Claremont McKenna, all of which LinkedIn places in its top fifty on career outcomes.

These are not all big-brand research universities. 18 of the fifty enroll fewer than 5,000 undergraduates, and the median across the list is 7,386. Small schools do well here because the ranking rewards alumni networks and recruiter attention rather than research output or reputation surveys.

Geography is the least surprising part: 26 of the fifty are in the Northeast, concentrated in MA (7), PA (6), CT (3). If you are looking outside that corridor the list thins quickly, which is worth knowing before you build a travel plan around it.

The catch is admission, not cost. The median acceptance rate on this list is 12%. But median net price for a family earning under $30,000 is $5,956 β€” these schools are mostly well endowed, and for lower-income families they can be cheaper than a state flagship.

Rated far higher than US News rates them

These are the schools where the two rankings disagree most. A positive number means LinkedIn places the school that many positions above its US News national universities rank.

US News figures are its National Universities ranking. It scores liberal arts colleges in a separate list, so a blank here means the school is not in the national universities ranking β€” not that US News rates it poorly.
