The MSU Non-resident Scholarship has four award levels granted based on academic achievement and excellence beyond the classroom. All domestic out-of-state students admitted to MSU are automatically considered for this award. Students with a GPA of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale are guaranteed a minimum of $7,000.
Alumni Distinguished Scholarship - award
Awarded to the top 15 candidates based on intellectual performance and participation in the MSU Alumni Distinguished Scholarship competition. Invitations to compete in the examination are sent to the most outstanding students who apply for admission by November 1. Renewable over eight semesters,* these scholarships include tuition, fees, food and housing (double occupancy in an MSU residence hall and silver meal plan), and $1,000 annually.

Distinguished First-year Scholarship - tuition & fees
Awarded to 20 runners-up in the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship competition; includes tuition and fees for eight semesters*
Honors College Distinction Scholarship

Awarded to non-resident Honors College invitees who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents or citizens of Canada or Mexico; $5,000 annually; eight semesters.
Honors College Excellence Scholarship
Award
$13,000/yr out-of-state
Awarded to a select set of non-resident and international Honors College invitees; $13,000 annually; eight semesters.
Honors College STATE Scholarship
Awarded to a select set of Michigan resident Honors College invitees; $5,000 annually; eight semesters.
Joseph R. and Sarah L. Williams Scholarship - full benefit
Awarded to a select set of candidates, this scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters of undergraduate enrollment and includes tuition, fees, food and housing, and a single $7,500 experiential education stipend.
Merit Recognition Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a limited number of non-Michigan residents who are National Merit finalists and name MSU as their first-choice institution; includes $4,000 annually plus food and housing (double occupancy in an MSU residence hall and silver meal plan; ...), renewable for eight semesters.*
MSU National Merit Scholarship

MSU Special Merit Scholarship
Awarded to a limited number of Michigan residents who are National Merit Finalists and name MSU as their first-choice institution; $4,000 annually, renewable for eight consecutive fall or spring semesters of undergraduate enrollment
Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship - short/long program
Award
$3,000-$5,000/yr out-of-state
Awarded for use with an MSU-sponsored or co-sponsored study abroad program; $3,000 or $5,000 depending upon the length of the program. Award must be used with the first eight semesters of enrollment as an undergraduate at MSU or before completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever occurs first.

Professorial Assistants receive an annual stipend of approximately $3,500 for 8-10 hours per week of faculty-mentored research or scholarly activity, renewable for four semesters.*
