When applying to UIS, undergraduate first-year students are automatically considered for Star Scholar First Year Scholarships. No additional application is required. Students must be enrolling in an on-campus academic program; fully online students are generally not eligible. These scholarships are automatically applied upon admission and are based solely on unweighted high school GPA.
Eligibility: The scholarship is renewable for up to four years in which the student is enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (12 hours or more) in an on-campus program and maintain a cumulative, minimum UIS institutional GPA of 2.75.

Out-of-State Requirements

The scholarship covers the difference between in-state, resident tuition and out-of-state, non-resident tuition up to 15 credit hours for fall and spring semesters. The scholarship is not available in the summer term. The scholarship amount will vary based upon how many credits students enroll in each semester.
Eligibility: Will be awarded automatically to students who meet the following criteria:
* 3.25 GPA or higher on 4.0 scale
* Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program
* Must be enrolled full-time in an on-campus, undergraduate program (online programs are not eligible)

UIS Scholarships (Overview)
UIS offers generous scholarships to high-achieving students. In 2024-25, more than 80% of undergraduate students received gift aid, and students received more than $7 million in UIS Scholarship programs. Most of these programs do not require a separate application and are offered to eligible students upon admission to the university.
Eligibility: Admission and merit scholarship decisions will generally be based on unweighted GPA only and are generally not awarded to students enrolling in a 100% online program.
