Students who are in the top 40% in their class, have scored at least an 1100 on the SAT or a 22 on the ACT, and have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA will be automatically awarded a minimum of $1,000 in merit-based aid.

Eligibility: All accepted first-time freshmen for the fall semester, who are South Carolina residents, are considered for merit-based scholarships. Merit-based scholarships are awarded in rounds, with higher award amounts given in earlier rounds. Therefore, early completion of the application for admission is strongly encouraged. To be minimally competitive, it is highly recommended that students have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

The Enhancement scholarship amount is up to $2500 per year. The Enhancement scholarship is awarded in addition to the LIFE or Palmetto Fellows scholarship.

Eligibility: Must be a LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipient. Must be in the second, third, or fourth year of full-time enrollment (based on initial date of college enrollment after high school). Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student in a declared major that is approved by the Commission on Higher Education.

The financial support provided by this program, combined with other federal, state, and institutional assistance for which they already qualify, will cover all tuition costs their freshman year.

Eligibility: Start strong with the Premier Pledge, which is a benefit for all admitted in-state students who are First Generation or fully eligible Pell students. Premier Pledge eligible students must complete the FAFSA.

Eligibility: It is highly recommended that incoming freshmen students have a minimum cumulative weighted high school GPA of 3.0 and rank in the top 40% of their graduating class. For transfer or returning students, a 3.0 college GPA is required.

FMU offers over 150 named, specialty scholarships. These awarded scholarships are available to all students, though many have specialized qualifying criteria such as a particular field of study or specific hometown or home county.

Eligibility: Francis Marion University’s First Generation Fund is designed to help FMU students who are the first in their family to attend college.

Eligibility: The Governor Robert E. McNair Scholarship is a privately funded scholarship program designed to prepare a rising generation of leaders to make a difference in their communities and instill a lifelong commitment to public service.

One renewable $1,000 scholarship is awarded per year to members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society who transfer to FMU.

Eligibility: Students must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA at the institution where they are members of Phi Theta Kappa. To be considered for this scholarship, you must be admitted to FMU and plan to enroll in Fall.

FMU enrolls over 1,200 students annually who benefit from South Carolina’s Palmetto Fellows, LIFE, and HOPE scholarships.

Eligibility: Individual students should work with guidance counselors at their high schools to apply for these scholarships, but FMU financial assistance counselors can assist if needed.

Visual Arts and Art Education Scholarships acknowledging exceptional work in the visual arts are awarded as funding permits on the basis of portfolio and other criteria review. Music Scholarships at Francis Marion are awarded through audition and/or interview to selected music industry majors and to exceptional music minors participating in the University instrumental and vocal performance ensembles. Theatre Arts Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of interview/audition for those interested in the acting/directing program, or interview/portfolio review for technical/design track students.

Eligibility: Winning applicants must be accepted at Francis Marion University as full-time art majors to receive funding. Incoming freshmen who wish to be considered for music scholarships should contact the music program coordinator to schedule an audition/interview the February prior to entering the University.
