Eligibility: Incoming students are automatically considered for merit scholarships through the Admissions process. These scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and do not require a supplemental application. Merit scholarships for incoming students are competitive and awarded to top applicants. Meeting minimum academic requirements does not guarantee earning a scholarship.

The Carey Gabay Scholarship Program will annually award full cost-of-attendance scholarships to attend State University of New York operated campus to five students who– like Carey – achieved academic excellence despite an economically disadvantaged background.

This national program offers one time scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000 and students may reapply each year as long as eligibility requirements are met.

Eligibility: The CMA Education Foundation Scholarship Program is open to students as follows: All state maritime academy students participating in a maritime-related field of study, including non-regimental students; Undergraduate and graduate students in the U.S. at state maritime academies, or at institutions with maritime-related degrees; High school students enrolled in schools in the U.S. with maritime programs; Students in their final year of high school or college, if they will continue their maritime-related education upon graduation; Students in their final year of college who are not continuing to a maritime-related graduate program; Students in their final year of a graduate program who are entering a maritime-related field in the U.S. upon graduation.

The New York State Excelsior Scholarship ... makes it possible for students to attend a SUNY school tuition-free.

Eligibility: Students eligible for NYS Excelsior Scholarship must enroll in at least 12 credits per term and complete at least 30 credits each academic year (successively), applicable towards their degree program through continuous study with no break in enrollment.

The Florida Harbor Pilot Association offers two $2,500 scholarships annually.

Eligibility: To qualify for the scholarship, a student must: Be enrolled in a maritime academy; Be a "minority person" pursuant to the Florida Statute; Have completed their first sea term with a GPA of 2.5; Be planning a career as a state harbor pilot, preferably in Florida; Write a 250-word essay explaining why they are interested in becoming a harbor pilot.
